Six Random Facts about me

All right - so my friend Anita tagged me for this "six random facts" meme and I'm afraid it's taken me a few days of head scratching to figure out how to participate ... here goes ...

Six random things about me:

• I'm currently a grad student in the Library & Information Science program at the University of Washington.
• I was born and raised in Fairmont, Minnesota - population in 1979 (when I graduated from highschool) was 11,751.
• My favorite book is Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin.
• I transformed my '94 Honda Civic into an Art Car last summer.
• My immediate family consists of husband Jack and brother and sister cats named Buddy and Abby.
• I have 5 older brothers; no sisters.

Dog Days in the rain! It was a good party, nonetheless, but what about a re-grouping for an Art Car get together? Despite the current wet, we should have some really good days through mid-October. What say you, Marnes? In the spirit of autumn and new beginnings, the creative energy of a new school year (literally!). I would love to be a part of an Art Car Team.
P.S. I still love the Monkey motif.

Chalk Outline idea

So, I had an idea of painting a "chalk" outline of a human figure on the hood of the car (like the chalk outlines drawn around homicide victims in the street) ... does that seem too dark? Would it look like I was symbolizing striking someone with the car? What if I styled the figure more like a Keith Haring figure?

if you give your friends free reign, it might be wild and fun and not so integrated - Free Spirit! You could choose the colors and shapes available so that whatever happens you have some design control.

The Sock Monkey Car particularly appeals, or Monkeys Galore, with all sorts of Monkey motifs. Hey! We're just monkeyin' around! I wonder if there are any decals one can purchase?

Here's an idea. Take the Honda to a day care center. See what the kids did to this Toyota. It must have been a great time for all.

How about taking all the stuff you've been collecting over time and making a mosaic all over your car. Or were you hoping to still be able to use a car wash?

German Camp Car

Well this is the Concordia Language Village's German Camp's car a few years ago (it has probably changed since then).  Before this it just had a bunch of Large magnetic Poetry words in German which was pretty cool (and Minnesotan b/c magnetic poetry originated in MN).  All this car is paint.  Does anyone know what type of paint will stick to a car??

Also, my fifth grade Teacher had a pretty awesome car - it was covered in stickers that he found and that his friends also found.

What fun this will be

I come from a family of car guys: '32 Ford Model B pickup. '32 Ford Model A Roadster. '52 Chevy pickup stake bed. '53 Ford pickup w/ 392 Hemi V-8. '64 Corvette Stingray. '65 Corvair Monza Turbo. '71 Ferrari Dino 206. '73 Mercedes Benz Unimog 406. There were many others. But somehow I didn't get the gene that finds joy in grease and skinned knuckles and endless hours out in the garage.

However, this sounds like a great project. I'm thinking lights. Christmas lights. Or those lights that come in clear flexible tubes. Or those glowing neon lights the kidz in Kent put under their Hondaz. What fun this will be, and won't my brothers be proud when I show them my very own skinned knuckles!

Disk Drive (Fremont Solstice Fair - Seattle)

This car is covered with painted 5-1/4" computer diskettes. I like the colors, the re-use of materials that would otherwise become trash, and the clever name.

well, I just joined this post when invited, and Marnieinseattle, I am very excited that you will be transforming your car into an artcar.  Are there many in Seattle?  Being from Minneapolis I have seen many artcars, and have been thinking of a design for my mom's car because I do not wish to rely on a car to get around but would still like to show my artistic talents.  Soo... my ideas:

1. a sock Monkey car (has this already been done?)

2. polka dots with vynal (me mum's idea)

3. hmmm... so many posibilities

some cool ones I've seen in the Twin Cities areas are the Cork Car, one with glass mosaic, one with powerpuff girls, and many other artsy cars.  If I see any more, or have any other ideas, I'll let you know
